Christine Nadeau; Witnessing the beauty of the world

Date and Place of Birth
Christine Nadeau was born in Quebec City in 1964 where she lives.

Background and Career
From an early age, Christine has always sought to express herself through art. With a bachelor's degree in visual arts from Laval University, she first chose to express her artistic sense as a graphic designer. She founded an advertising company, which she then managed for 15 years, while painting in her spare time. In parallel to her career in graphic design and her studies in psychology, she developed her practice of painting in oil, then in acrylic. In 2005, her passion for painting won out; she gave up graphic design to devote herself full time to her art. Since then, everything has followed one another for the artist, who now sees her works exhibited all over the country.

« After more than 15 years of working with oils, the discovery of acrylics was a revelation. I have in me, and it shows in my work, the learning of both mediums. Oil painting has left me a legacy from which acrylics benefit. »

Her work, her art
Passion, intensity, spontaneity and contrasts: Christine Nadeau joyfully displays her personality on her canvases;
"As I like contrasts and my character is direct and without half measures, the construction of my work is based on these opposites and this on several levels, in particular my frequent use of hot-cold, light-dark, quantity contrasts and complementary colours. When I express something, I like to go all out: the sun is always bright, the emotion frank, nothing static. It is light, life, joy and movement that I try to express in my paintings."

Both attached to traditional values and excited by the search for novelty, she dares to combine old-fashioned shades with more daring colours. Her strong brushstrokes combined with acrylics, which dry quickly, serve her spontaneity very well. Her favourite subjects are spring scenes where the snow contrasts with the warmth of the sun, flamboyant autumn landscapes and seascapes where light plays a leading role.

Drawing a parallel between a river and human strength, between a country road and a path of life, the artist happily assumes the contemplative character of her work. Her subjective expression of the world often overlaps with her emotional perception, as the titles of her works reveal; Mirage, Les attachements, Une île un refuge, Quiétude, ...

In her work, a good mastery of composition and drawing creates an organised framework for a free and harmonious expression.

Christine Nadeau is represented by Au P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery since March 2018, exclusively for Quebec.
