Kimberly Kiel was born in Saskatchewan in 1972. Working mainly with a palette knife and abundant piles of oil paint, she shapes her brightly coloured paintings with a variety of impasto marks. Energetic and enthousiast, she expresses herself through a multitude of subjects; dense forests, lush bouquets, concerts and grand cocktail parties.
Kimberly Kiel - Vibrant passion
Date and Place of Birth
Kimberly Kiel was born in Balgonie, Saskatchewan in 1972. At the age of 31, she began her career as a painter. She then lived in Calgary. In 2008, called by the quietness of the great outdoors, she returned to her native province, where she still lives.
Background and Career
After graduating from the University of Regina with a degree in Finance, Kimberly moved to Alberta, attracted by the career opportunities in the oil patch in the 1990s. She founded her own financial services firm in 1993. After a decade of successfully running her own business, she still dreams of a change. Her love for creation has always been fulfilled through music and dance. Then, the first time she swipes a brush, floods a canvas with colour, she is filled with her greatest passion. She sold her business to devote herself full time to learning to paint.
Kimberly gets as much joy from the process of painting as she does from the results of her inspiration; " I am passionate about art! For me, creation is a celebration of the joy and colour in life. »
Although essentially self-taught, Kimberly had the benefit of valuable mentors early in her career. In addition to this guidance, her time in the business world has served her well; thanks to her entrepreneurial spirit and can-do nature, she now exhibits and sells her work across the country.
Her work, her art
Kimberly Kiel's talent is expressed through a variety of subjects; landscapes, flowers, trees and people. She likes the creamy texture of oil, the fact that it does not dry too quickly and the playfulness of the mixtures. At a glance, it is clear that colour is a major source of inspiration. On her canvas, she manipulates the colours and layers them to form inspiring textures. She experiments, then composes her subjects;" I like to take the paint out of the tube and spread it generously on the blank canvas. I get an immense sense of satisfaction every time, I let myself be guided by instinct. Often I have no idea where the inspiration comes from. I think, for example, "OK, I'm painting a floral subject " and when I finish my work I go " Wow, where did that come from? "
From the outset, she recognises that her aim is to create something subjective, intriguing and stimulating. She wants her art to touch people's hearts, to awaken their minds and souls. Kimberly Kiel's positive attitude, her zest for life, is perfectly reflected in her creations. Like her work, she is energetic, outgoing and charming.
Kimberly Kiel has been represented by the Au P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery since January 2013, exclusively for Eastern Canada.
